Meguro Drum Bridge
by Hiroshige (1797–1858)
A view of the famous Drum bridge in the valley of the Meguro river, the main route to the Meguro Fudo Shrine.
The bridge, particularly as it is a bridge over water, represents crossing over from the profane to the sacred, cleansing yourself to enter the pure world of nature.
The artist Hiroshige, is often considered, along with Hokusai, one of the greatest 19th century Japanese print artists, and known to have influenced western impressionists.
