Snow at Kiso Gorge
by Hiroshige II (1829-1869)

This winter image is from the series ‘One Hundred Famous Views in the Various Provinces’, produced between 1859 and 1861 with a landscape filled with evergreen pine trees - regarded by both the Japanese and Chinese as a symbol of longevity, good fortune and steadfastness.
Hiroshige II was the student and adopted
son of Hiroshige. When his master died in 1858, he married his master’s daughter and adopted the art-name of Hiroshige.
