Lingering Snow on Mount Fuji
by Hasui Kawase (1883-1957)

While scholars debate the origin of the sacred mountain’s name ‘Fuji’, one of the most commonly used means ‘Everlasting Life.’ Evergreen pine trees are depicted in the foreground - a symbol regarded by both the Japanese and Chinese as a symbol of longevity, good fortune and steadfastness.
Hasui is was one of the most talented, prolific and
recognised artists of the Shin Hanga (New Print) movement, best known for his landscape prints.
